Greycon Improves Database Performance, Inventory Management
Greycon Ltd., London, U.K., a leader in scheduling and execution for the paper, printing, film and nonwovens industries, has released Greycon Suite version 8.1 and GreyconMill 2.7, which consolidates the many improvements implemented in association with the projects at Raven Engineered Films (USA), Blue Paper (France), Kipaş Kağıt (Turkey), and Elobrick (Denmark), all of which are now successfully live. The new release includes:
- Significantly improved database performance (and an associated GreyconMill performance index for measuring it)
- Completely new inventory screen, with configurable editors
- A wiki-based online help system
- A new production history screen
- A new screen for dealing with orphan inventory
- Unified workflow for shipping processes
- Usability improvements in more than 14 other areas.
In Greycon Suite 8.1, the opt-Studio module includes a new algorithm for solving a complex manufacturing problem: When there are two consecutive manufacturing processes, both of which need to be block-scheduled, how can an optimized schedule be constructed?
A paper machine may feed a second process, such as extrusion or coating. With a two-stage process, the needs of the primary process are often in conflict with those of the second process. There are also issues involved in storing the intermediate work-in-progress.
Working in conjunction with Oji Papéis Especiais in Brazil, Greycon developed and implemented an extension to its proprietary block scheduling optimizer to address this issue. To make it easier to share the optimized schedule, the opt-Studio module now includes the ability to publish any of its grids in a web-based report.
