A blog currently on the TAPPI Community social networking site, titled Help Wanted: Apply Within, explores the impending "baby boomer" or "silver tsunami" retirement wave and its expected impact on the pulp and paper industry in the very near future. The Pöyry "Point of View" blog looks closely at the industry’s aging workforce and comes to the conclusion that, while some 25% of the U.S. workforce is expected to be age 55 or older by 2020, our industry is already there, and has been for several years now. And things will get worse very quickly if we don’t implement a strong "boomer replacement" plan right away.
Specifically what that plan could or should be is currently being discussed on the site. To read this and other blogs on TAPPI Community, and to join in on conversation about the rapidly developing "silver tsunamni," visit TAPPI Community and become involved today.TAPPI
