APP’s Lifshitz Named Co-Chair of Sustainability Consortium's Paper, PPF Sector
Asia Pulp & Paper (APP), Jakarta, Indonesia, announced this week that Ian Lifshitz, director of sustainability for the Americas, has been named co-chair of the Paper, Pulp and Forestry (PPF) Sector Working Group for The Sustainability Consortium. Lifshitz will co-lead the working group as it examines sustainability issues—environmental, social, and economic—for several forestry products, including lumber, engineered wood products, books, facial tissue, and greeting cards.
Composed of an array of industry experts, non-profit organizations, and academic/research institutions, the PPF Sector Working Group provides insights and shares best practices on effective integration supply chain solutions to sustainability challenges.
"It’s a great honor to be appointed co-chair of this valuable working group for The Sustainability Consortium," said Lifshitz. "APP was one of the first major pulp and paper companies to implement a comprehensive Zero Deforestation supply chain policy and so we are uniquely positioned to provide insights in this area. I look forward to sharing our learnings and collaborating with this talented group of individuals working to progress global sustainability initiatives across multiple industries."
Sustainability Consortium CEO Sheila Bonini said that "we are happy to have Ian Lifshitz as a co-chair of the PPF Sector Working Group. APP shares the Consortium's commitment towards zero deforestation and our PPF Working Group is committed to developing sustainability standards and key performance indicators for this sector and the various products it produces."
Consortium Working Groups are chartered groups of The Sustainability Consortium members and invited participants. Led by a Sustainability Consortium director and academic staff, the working group members collaborate to identify issues, opportunities, and key performance indicators that measure sustainability progress at a product category level.
The Sustainability Consortium is jointly administered by Arizona State University and the University of Arkansas in the U.S., with additional operations at Wageningen UR in the Netherlands and Nanjing University in China. It is comprised of more than 100 members, including manufacturers, retailers, NGOs, civil society, and corporations that work collaboratively on innovation for a new generation of products and supply networks.
