Smurfit Kappa Converting PM from Containerboard to Brown Machine-Glazed Paper
Smurfit Kappa’s Sangüesa mill in the North of Spain is being hailed as an "ambitious project" site, converting a machine from producing high quality containerboard to brown machine-glazed paper. Production volume will be up to 30,000 metric tpy of glazed papers, a product being used more (especially in European markets) in favor of plastics for paper packaging food, creating shopping bags, or making gift paper.
Bellmer Ibérica a subsidiary of Bellmer Inc., based in Oschelbronn, Germany, is handling the grade conversion project, and noted in a release that it faced "strong market competition" to win the order.
New parts and accessories include a new headbox, the Bellmer TURBOVaahtoJetter for sheet formation, and a TURBO Diluter dilution water control system. The order also included a Bellmer TURBOShaker, designed to improve formation quality.
A new shoe press, the TURBOPress, will improve performance of the press section. The necessary drying cylinders for pre- and post-dryer section are also included. Bellmer will additionally deliver a TURBOReeler for innovative reeling technology. The hood, exhaust air system, and heat recovery system will all be upgraded as well.
