U.S. P&W Paper Shipments Decline in June
Total U.S. printing and writing (P&W) paper shipments decreased 6% in June compared with June 2014, with inventory levels increasing 1% from May, according to the recently released AF&PA (Washington, D.C., USA) June 2015 Printing-Writing Paper Report. Key data from the report include:
- Uncoated free sheet (UFS) paper shipments in June increased 3% compared with June 2014, the first year-over-year increase in the past 18 months. Imports of UFS increased 16% year-over-year in May.
- Coated free sheet (CFS) paper shipments in June decreased 7% compared with June 2014. Imports of CFS papers increased 6% in May, with exports were down 18%.
- Uncoated mechanical (UM) paper shipments decreased 21% compared with June 2014. Imports of UM papers were down 21% in May, the eleventh consecutive monthly decline.
- Coated mechanical (CM) shipments in June decreased 19% relative to June 2014. Imports of CM decreased 1% in May, while exports of CM were up 24% compared with May 2014, the fifth consecutive monthly increase.
