TAPPI Industry Career Center: Sealed Air Corp seeks Process Engineer
This
position located in Pennsylvania, USA, works independently or in conjunction with engineers, production, and maintenance personnel in analyzing and correcting production deficiencies, improving equipment techniques, cost reduction, and start up of papermaking processes and equipment.
Responsibilities:
- Improve manufacturing efficiencies (rate, yield, uptime, quality)
- Develop methods to increase production rates and yields of products produced without negatively impacting quality
- Manage startup and written standard operating procedures (SOP’s) for operation of equipment as they come online. Maintain and update process standard operating conditions (SOC’s) parameters as needed
- Stay abreast of new equipment / process developments in the paper technology field
- Identify opportunities to remove cost from current and new operations
- Organize and lead plant efforts in transitioning new products from the Technology & Innovation team
- Troubleshoot manufacturing problems and identify solutions with data based decision making
- Work cross functionally with the quality department in addressing process issues that impact product performance
- Identify and implement new methods of manufacturing to improve profitability
- Applies advanced technical knowledge and or new technology to the manufacturing process to increase customer satisfaction and safety by: (1) improving products through transitions, development, and trade secrets, (2) reduce variation, (3) greater efficiency through improvement of reliability, rates, yields, and quality, (4) less complexity through long term solutions to eliminate day to day troubleshooting, (5) improved equipment, (6) reduce setup and cycle time.

The following is a list of qualifications for the position:
Basic:
- BS/MS chemical, mechanical or paper science engineering preferred
- Minimum five years’ experience, preferably in paper manufacturing process.
Additional:
- Knowledgeable of statistics preferred
- Prior use of designed experiments, Lean Six Sigma, SPC or equivalent
- Work effectively within a matrix managed organization
- Flexibility within high performance work teams
- Excellent written, verbal and communication skills along with professional presentation and negotiation skills
- Experience preferred with varied manufacturing processes such as kraft or recycled paper.
- Requires knowledge of statistical techniques and tools, including their use and interpretation
- Requires ability to manage projects and processes involving multiple manufacturing processes, plants, and across various portions of the business.
- The ability to work independently and focus on critical project parameters that determine success or failure.
- Self-starter capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
