WMU Seeks Department Chair
Western Michigan University is ranked among the 100 top-tier public universities in U.S. News & World Report. The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has placed WMU among the top public research institutions. WMU has a total enrollment of approximately 24,000 students in eight colleges and is affiliated with the WMU Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine and the WMU Cooley School of Law.
A scholar who will lead the department in a strong learner-centered research university is being sought. The candidate will have a sustained research record that merits tenure at the rank of full professor. A PhD degree in chemical engineering is required. The chair will mentor faculty to achieve research excellence and augment external funding. This person will support the undergraduate and graduate teaching mission of the department, and lead the assessment and accreditation of its programs. The department is looking for a dynamic leader who will develop and implement a strategic vision, communicate department achievements, cultivate relations with industry and the community, seek new funding resources, and foster shared governance.
The Department of Chemical and Paper Engineering in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences (CEAS) offers bachelor, master, and PhD degree programs, including accredited programs in chemical engineering, paper engineering, and graphic and printing science. The department currently has 13 full-time faculty members and approximately 350 undergraduate students and 30 graduate students.
