U.S. P&W Paper Shipments Continue to Inch Downward
Total U.S. printing and writing (P&W) paper shipments decreased 1% in November 2015 compared with November 2014, according to the AF&PA (Washington, D.C., USA) November 2015 Printing-Writing Paper Report released this past week. Total P&W paper inventory levels were essentially flat compared with October 2015. By-grade data for U.S. P&W papers in November 2015 include:
Uncoated free sheet (UFS) paper shipments increased 8% relative to shipments in November 2014, the third increase in the past six months. Imports of UFS decreased 31% year-over-year in October, and were down 10% YTD compared with 2014.
November coated free sheet (CFS) paper shipments decreased 3% compared with November 2014. Imports of CFS papers decreased 4% in October, the third year-over-year decrease in the past four months.
Uncoated mechanical (UM) paper shipments decreased 4% compared with November 2014. Imports of UM papers were down 14% in October, the sixteenth consecutive monthly decline.
Coated mechanical (CM) shipments in November decreased 22% relative to November 2014. Imports of CM increased in October by 26% compared with the same period last year, and are up 12% YTD.
