HP Assures Food Safety Compliance for Digitally Produced Packaging

HP, Palo Alto, Calif., USA, showcased the company's color simplex HP PageWide Web Press portfolio at a convention in Berlin, Germany, May 18-20, touting the machine's use of water-based inks that comply with all U.S. and European regulations as well as industry guidance to ensure corrugated paper packaging converters can attain food safety compliance with new digital technology.

Food packaging is a dominant subset of the packaging segment, representing nearly 40% of the corrugated packaging industry, and is currently a virtually untapped opportunity for digital corrugated packaging converters. One of the previous hurdles to digitally addressing the food packaging market is the increasing requirement that converters of corrugated ensure the new printing technology they use is food safety compliant, even in non-direct food contact situations. To achieve a solution to this, the HP PageWide Web Presses T400S and T1100S feature a compatibility with water-based HP A50 food container approved inks, intended for printing on the non-food contact surface of corrugated paperboard packaging.

"Packaging converters are an important part of the food packaging supply ecosystem, and to maintain the trust of consumers and grow business with brands, they must have the capabilities to deliver safe and compliant solutions," said Eric Wiesner, GM, PageWide Web Press Division, HP, during the convention.
