Dutch paper manufacturer Parenco has started up the converted PM 2 at its Renkum mill in the Netherlands, according to a report by Euwid Pulp and Paper, Germany.  Parenco produced the first jumbo roll of 100 gsm packaging paper on August 2. The conversion of the machine, which used to produce newsprint with a capacity of 225,000 metric tpy and was idled in 2009, took 13 months and cost EUR 100 million. 

PM 2 now produces testliner 3 and recycled fluting with grammages ranging from 70 to 160 gsm. A company spokeswoman said that the full capacity of 385,000 metric tpy should be reached in 2020. This year, Parenco expected to produce a total of 90,000 t of packaging paper, she added in the report by Euwid. 

The Renkum mill houses another machine (PM 1) which produces supercalendered paper with a capacity of 260,000 metric tpy.
