TAPPI Career Center: FITNIR Analyzers Seeks Service Technician
As a Service Technician, you will assist customers with installation, start-up, calibration, training, troubleshooting, and technical support for FITNIR products in the pulp and paper market. The Service Technician position will require developing close customer relationships that will range from E/I technicians, supervisors, process engineers, and a range of key mill members. The Service Technician will work closely with mills' Maintenance, Process Control and Application teams.
A desirable candidate will have experience working in the pulp mill environment, have E&I, controls and installation experience, and be very technically competent. The successful candidate will need to have a desire and ability to be hands-on with equipment and work well with mill E&I personnel. The candidate also needs to enjoy and be available for substantial world-wide travel and be able to manage their time and schedule well.
This is a full-time position where residence in the Vancouver, BC, Canada, area is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Active involvement with customer personnel during installation and start-up of FITNIR equipment, both domestic and international.
- Provide pro-active and responsive after-sales/maintenance services including on-site product and application training for mill personnel, system improvements, computer upgrades, troubleshooting, configuration changes, product-related consultation, and upgrade recommendations to new FITNIR technology when applicable.
- Work in conjunction with the FITNIR team to improve the hardware layout and functionality of FITNIR's product suite of process analyzers.
- Follow projects closely to ensure customers' understanding and acceptance.
- Provide warranty repair and courtesy visits in order to resolve customer concerns and to help drive, build and retain business,
Position Requirements
- Travel expectations for this role is upwards of 50% of the time, within North America and internationally. This includes travel to miss sites as well as occasional travel for off-site training and attendance at select conferences. Candidate must be able to travel when required and is authorized to work in the United States and Canada with passport.
- Superior self-motivation. Although FITNIR is very much a team-oriented organization, much of the work is performed, and travel required, will be done independently.

- Safe working habits and processes are essential.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD is an asset.
Qualifications
- 3 years of pulp mill experience
- Strong technical and analytical skills
- E&I and process controls experience
- Excellent communication and relationship building skills
- Valid driver's license.
