Cascades, David Suzuki Foundation Partner to Raise Awareness of Green Practices
Cascades, Kingsey Falls, Que., Canada, this week announced its new partnership with the David Suzuki Foundation, a respected, non-government environmental organization dedicated to protecting the environment. Through this new association, Cascades, which is already recognized as the leader in sustainable business practices, will be supporting the Foundation in its mission to protect nature's diversity and our quality of life, thereby expanding its positive impact on the planet's health.
"The David Suzuki Foundation is proud to welcome Cascades as a partner in its mission. The company is among the few Canadian players that have a good reputation for environmental performance and that share our values with regard to environmental protection," said Karel Mayrand, director general for Quebec and Atlantic Canada for the David Suzuki Foundation.
"Through its unique and innovative business decisions, Cascades has always stood out from others in the paper and packaging industry. For more than 50 years, we have been working to find solutions to steer the market toward more environmentally responsible consumer choices. By joining our voice with that of the David Suzuki Foundation, we will be able to further encourage citizen actions that emphasize lifestyle practices with more positive daily effects," explained Mario Plourde, president and CEO of Cascades.
To officially mark this new partnership, Cascades and the Foundation hosted a conference in Toronto on October 17. More than 300 participants from various backgrounds were present—company representatives, public officials, NGOs, and the general public. David Suzuki, scientist, broadcaster, author, and co-founder of the Foundation, Laurence Packer, York University Faculty of Science Professor and a world-renowned bee expert, and Lorraine Johnson, urban gardening expert and author, were present to discuss the protection of biodiversity and the adoption of sustainable practices in our daily lives.
Cascades will also support the Foundation's other activities and public awareness campaigns in the coming months. In addition to the general public, it will encourage its employees to engage in them.
The David Suzuki Foundation is a Canadian non-profit environmental organization dedicated to finding solutions through science-based research, public engagement, and policy work.
