In Memoriam: Jan-Eric Bergstedt

an-Eric Bergstedt was born in Pitea, Sweden, and as a young man served in the Swedish army in 1955-56. He graduated from Skelleftea Technical College, and had a long and storied career in the P&P industry beginning in 1956.
Jan-Eric began as an assistant pulp mill superintendent for Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget (SCA) in Munksund, Sweden. In 1962 he began working for Defibrator AB as a field engineer. In 1965 he and his family moved to the U.S. and he began working as a field and sales engineer. He then served as president of American Defibrator's U.S. and Canadian operation from 1971-1986.
Jan-Eric served as president of Andritz Sprout Bauer in Muncy, Pa., from 1991-1993. In 1994, he became president of Kadant, AES in Queensbury, N.Y., and held that position until 2002. He served his local community and his business industry on various boards with TAPPI. He was an avid sailor, map reader, and traveler. He sailed competitively and for pleasure, including a Trans-Atlantic crossing on a 40 ft. sailboat.
Jan-Eric is survived by his wife of 60 years, Viviann; his son, Anders Spencer Bergstedt; and granddaughter, Anahka-Claren, of Seattle, Wash.; his sisters, Naima Standar, Pitea, Sweden, and Britta Borjesson, Stockholm; his brother, Torsten Bergstedt (wife Lillemor), Kristinehamn, Sweden; and his nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service will be held at a future date. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
