Macedonia Submits National Forest Certification System

The global public consultation for the Macedonia national forest certification system is now open. Stakeholders globally are invited to comment on its compliance with PEFC (Geneva, Switzerland) International’s Sustainability Benchmarks by March 18.

The Council for Sustainable Forest Management in the Republic of Macedonia is one of PEFC's newest national members after joining last November during the General Assembly. This means it’s the first time the national system has been submitted for endorsement.

The PEFC Collaboration Fund has played an important role in helping to prepare this national system for endorsement. Following on from an earlier project in the Balkans, PEFC has been working with CNVP Macedonia since 2014 to guide Macedonia through the system development process.

The final objective of the project was the submission of the system to PEFC for endorsement.

Every national system submitted to us must go through a rigorous process before it can receive endorsement. This means they know requirements are applied consistently at national level.

As part of this process, the PEFC will seek comments and feedback from all interested parties through a 60-day global public consultation.

All comments received during the consultation will be provided to the independent organization carrying out the assessment. This valuable information will help determine whether the national system is in compliance with international requirements.
