Thimm Verpackung Opens Advanced Corrugated Board Plant in Bavaria

Thimm Verpackung, Germany, this week (Sept. 15-16, 2017) celebrated the official opening of its new Holledau corrugated packaging plant in Bavaria, together with customers, employees, residents, local politicians, and the Deputy Minister-President of Bavaria and Bavarian Minister of Economic Affairs Ilse Aigner.

State-of-the-art production technologies, efficient and highly-automated processes, coupled with a flexible, customer-oriented organization with a comprehensive service element are just some of the highlights of one of the most advanced plants in Europe.

Testament to this at the new Wolnzach site is the installation of latest generation rotation and flat-bed cutting technologies in addition to the high-tech corrugator. The different systems complement each other perfectly because a wide range of packaging formats can be produced in varying print runs at optimum costs. The plant is also able to die-cut complex designs with challenging perforations (e.g. for shelf-ready packaging). Another feature to be highlighted is the high degree of automation and the part-automated set-up process on the rotary-die cutter.

Tankred Pörner, managing director of Thimm Verpackung Süd, said  that "also unique in our sector is our mix of different printing technologies which cover flexo direct printing, high-quality postprint, and flexo-preprint through to high-productivity digital printing. These enable us to provide the customized consultancy that our customers expect on the most appropriate procedure for their needs." This wide selection of packaging procedures ensures a high degree of packaging design customization.

The favorable geographical location of the plant, between Munich and Nuremberg, links important economic metropolitan areas within Germany as well as the adjacent export markets. Thimm has thus reinforced its own production network with eight sites in Western, Central, and Eastern Europe, and specifically when combined with its sister-plants in Alzey (Rhineland-Palatinate) and VÅ¡etaty (Czech Republic), customers in Germany, Austria, Czech Republic and Switzerland have the security of reliable deliveries.

Thimm Verpackung celebrated the ground-breaking ceremony for the new Bavarian corrugated cardboard plant in Wolnzach in September 2015. Some 26,000 sq. meters of the 90,000-sq.-meter site are now covered by buildings. Large-scale production has been under way since February 2017. Production capacity is 120 million sq. meters of corrugated board. Thimm has invested a total of EUR 60 million in the plant to date.

Thimm Verpackung is the largest business division of the Northeim-based Thimm Group. Thimm Group is the leading solutions provider for the packaging and distribution of goods.
