TAPPI Industry Career Center: ABB seeks Process Control Engineer
ABB is seeking a Process Control Optimization Engineer to design, develop, and introduce systems to effectively utilize state-of-the-art developments encompassing various engineering fields and associated products, with a heavy emphasis on process control and automation.
Typical duties/responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Conduct cost/benefits analyses and project returns on investments.
- Plan, conduct, or coordinate a wide range of highly complex engineering activities encompassing one or more engineering disciplines.
- Develop recommendations based on sound engineering practices and business considerations.
- Serve as consultant to senior management and major customers regarding advanced technical studies, their potential applications, and the resolution of complex problems.
- Manage or coordinate engineering projects of major significance to the company.
- Proactively develop and implement measures to improve operations and customer satisfaction.
- Establish schedules and resource requirements for major engineering projects.
- Conduct or direct and coordinate critical aspects of projects and serve as technical advisor to senior management.
- Determine most effective means of accomplishing objectives and coordinate related engineering activities.
- Develop and introduce actions designed to promote customer satisfaction.
- Plan, conduct, coordinate, and develop recommendations regarding varied analytical studies, such as the application of advanced engineering concepts and processes.
- Analyze engineering and business aspects of proposed programs, develop proposals, and coordinate associated activities.
- Serve as a technical consultant, advisor, and spokesperson for the organization on highly significant matters and Negotiate with customers regarding matters of considerable significance that may impact current and future business, and assist them in optimizing their operations by such means as improving their costs, quality, and processes.
- Design and develop highly complex models or simulations of systems and processes, and conduct independent engineering studies encompassing sophisticated analytical techniques and novel and unconventional approaches.
- Analyze new proposals, requirements, specifications, and products.
- Maintain awareness of state-of-the-art technology, anticipate market trends and customer requirements, and propose responsive actions.
- Clearly and concisely document and present technical and financial findings and recommendations to gain customer and management acceptance and to help grow the service business.
- Publish papers to promote ABB’s service model and service products.
- Identify new Intellectual Properties and secure protection for the Intellectual Properties.
- Serve as engineering or project manager.
- Direct activities of other engineers and assist in their professional and technical development.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree and five years of professional work experience.
- Job posting under Chemical Engineering, but other engineering disciplines considered.
Preferred Qualification:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and six years of experience in the Pulp and Paper or Chemical industry optimizing process control measurement products.
Candidates must already have work authorization to work for ABB in the U.S.
