Hexcel Corporation Seeks Research & Technology Formulation Scientist
The selected individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following obligations:
- Develop/formulate new coating products for carbon fiber and improve/optimize existing coatings.
- Develop a theoretical and practical understanding of the major attributes of coating formulations and their physico-chemical behavior on fiber and in composites.
- Work with manufacturing to resolve production issues and achieve desired product attributes.
- Identify and apply new technologies/raw materials to new products or to enhance current products.
Qualifications:
- College degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or other related science. Must have minimum 5 years coatings, emulsions, suspensions or formulations experience with B.S. degree or minimum 3 years of formulations experience with advanced degree. Prior experience in coatings, textiles, composites, paints, adhesives, or personal care products is preferred.
- Must be a team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as a demonstrated ability to multitask and work within a matrix organizational structure.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional and scientific journals, general business periodicals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, technical methods, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Must possess and demonstrate a fundamental understanding of the principles of surfactant and colloidal chemistry. Must demonstrate a working knowledge of structure-property relations and physical/chemical attributes of raw materials. Knowledge of analytical techniques and instrumentation for raw material and product quality testing a plus.
- Ability to apply skills, knowledge and techniques in development of new products effectively. Independently manage projects from inception through first production. Document project work by maintaining detailed lab notebooks, issuing formula procedures and specifications. Ability to conduct literature research independently is a plus.
- to apply scientific methods and judgment to completion of assignments or directions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Ability to deal with problems involving tangible and intangible factors in standardized and non-standardized assignments and situations.
