IBBC Program Highlights Sustainable Solutions
With limited resources and a growing population, the world’s attention continues to focus more and more on sustainability. Industries look to develop new sustainable alternatives and improve efficiencies. One innovative approach to identify and develop new solutions is Imagine Chemistry, a program launched by AkzoNobel and KPMG to invite startups and academics to find solutions to some of the most urgent challenges facing the chemicals industry today.
Over the past two years, Imagine Chemistry has received over 350 idea submissions that address challenges in a variety of areas including: bio-based and biodegradable surfactants and thickeners; bio-based sources of Ethylene; cellulose-based alternatives to synthetics; intelligent chemical plants; wastewater-free chemical sites; revolutionizing chlorate production; and zero footprint surfactant platforms. Many ideas have also focused on sustainability topics such as sustainable small particle technologies; sustainable powder technologies; and sustainable alternatives to current technologies.

IBBC offers attendees a peer-reviewed technical program addressing critical topics relating to biorefinery infrastructure, torrefaction and densification, lignin, value added products, nanotechnology, and nonwoods. IBBC also offers a Rapid Fire Showcase where students defend their poster presentations as well as Hot Topics breakfasts where attendees discuss industry issues with their peers.
