Resolute Joins Federal Gender Equity Initiative for Forestry
Resolute (Montreal, Que, Canada) is taking part in a unique initiative launched by the Canadian Institute of Forestry/Institut forestier du Canada (CIF-IFC) to promote gender equity in Canada’s forest products sector. Isabel Pouliot, VP, Compensation, Corporate Services and Strategic Human Resources Initiatives, joined a group of experts representing the public and private spheres, academia, Indigenous communities and not-for-profit organizations in developing a national action plan to engage, attract, retain and advance women in Canada’s forest products sector. The Government of Canada has announced it will provide funding for the project.
Resolute said they are proud of the number of women currently in senior management, occupying key roles in Legal Affairs; Investor Relations and Treasury; IT; Environment, Energy and Innovation; Indigenous Affairs; Human Resources; and other areas. Continuing to build a diverse, representative workforce is a top priority for Resolute, and we are focused on increasing the number of women and members of minority groups in hourly or salaried technical, professional and managerial roles. A diverse workforce, working in collaboration with common goals and business objectives, delivers superior results, and represents a competitive advantage in the marketplace of ideas, products and services.
Only about 17% of Canada’s natural resources workforce was comprised of women in 2017, according to aggregated data from Statistic Canada. With baby boomer retirements on the horizon, as well as new jobs expected to be created through diversification, there are more opportunities than ever for women seeking careers in the forest products sector. We are pleased to participate in the CIF-IFC’s initiative and promote a needed cultural shift toward greater diversity and inclusion.
