Plan Your New Year of Paper Making Training
Kick off your educational New Year by planning your training schedule now. TAPPI, in partnership with the Wisconsin Institute for Sustainable Technology (WIST), will be promoting a series of laboratory-focused short courses throughout the year. WIST is part of the College of Natural Resources at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, and also home to the ABET-accredited Paper Science and Chemical Engineering Program.

(All courses held at the WIST Training Facilities in Stevens Point, Wis., USA)
Each course will be led by one of two renowned instructors from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point. Dr. Gerry Ring, Professor Emeritus of Paper Science and Engineering or Dr. Roland Gong, Assistant Professor of Paper Science and Engineering.
Dr. Gerry Ring began his professional career as a Research Scientist for Kimberly-Clark Corporation after obtaining his Ph.D. at the Institute of Paper Chemistry in Appleton Wisconsin. In 1986, Ring joined the faculty of UW-Stevens Point and chaired its paper science (now paper science and engineering) program from 2003 until 2013. Dr. Ring has written 15 publications and has been recognized for numerous achievements. Ring’s research is in the area of paper physics emphasizing hydrogen bonding and sheet formation.
Dr. Roland Gong earned his doctorate in paper and imaging science and engineering from Western Michigan University, where he researched paper coating using new materials and cutting-edge facilities. Gong's research focused on the paper pigment coating process. He has worked on coating and lamination since 1998 as a printing and packaging engineer. His work has included product packaging and liquid packaging.
