The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) released the June 2019 Containerboard Monthly report on July 17.
Containerboard production in June 2019 decreased 6.6 percent compared to June 2018 and was down 4.9 percent year-to-date. The average daily production compared to May 2019 was 0.6 percent higher.
The containerboard operating rate decreased from 91.8 percent in May to 89.1 percent. The total linerboard rate dropped below 90 percent for the fourth time this year, down to 86.3 percent. The June total operating rate was 7.1 points lower than the same month last year and the year-to-date operating rate was down 6.2 points compared to last year. Production for export, most of which is linerboard, was down 11.5 percent month-over-month and was down 18.6 percent year-to-date.
