Vietnam War Veteran and longtime TAPPI member, Roger Wayne Ogden passed away January 16, 2021, at Lewis Gale-Alleghany Hospital in Low Moor. Mr. Ogden was born on April 9, 1946, in Covington, a son of the late Howard Raymond Ogden, Sr. and Hazel Stinnett Ogden.
While serving in Germany and Greece, he ranked as Sergeant in the U.S. Army. Roger Ogden attended North Carolina State University and graduated from VWCC and Virginia Tech while achieving his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. In the earlier years, he worked for VDOT and the Covington City School System. He retired in 2005 from Mead-Westvaco as a Senior Chemist. He was a Life Member of the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033, Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Covington American Legion Post 4. Mr. Ogden was also a longtime member of Edgemont Presbyterian Church where he had served as an Elder, Sunday School teacher, and choir member.
TAPPI Member since 1975, for 46 years Mr. Ogden participated in reviewing 73 Standard-Specific Interest Groups (SSIGs). He was also a member of the Pulp and Chemical Properties Committee. A man with a passion for the industry, he was part of Local TAPPI Sections: Virginia-Carolina TAPPI Local Section and Southeastern TAPPI.
Surviving is his wife of 44 years, Dreama Loudermilk Ogden, of Covington; several nieces and nephews. Roger Wayne Ogden presence and contribution to the industry will be missed!
