Stora Enso Brands Its Recyclable Cellulose Packaging Foam as Papira

Stora Enso has announced the brand name for the company's paper fiber-based and fully paper-recyclable cellulose foam for protective and cushioning material in packaging — Papira by Stora Enso. The lightweight and shock absorbing properties make Papira an especially attractive alternative for protective packaging applications.

In 2020, Stora Enso announced its investment in a pilot plant for producing Papira, and now is advancing with a pilot to test with customers to validate the material.

Stora Enso noted that Papira protective packaging foam is made from paper fibers, and that it is purposefully designed for recycling in any paper stream. Papira is a sustainable alternative to the use of traditional fossil-based foam materials, such as polyethylene (PE) foam and expanded polystyrene (EPS), commonly known as Styrofoam.
