PPSA Announces Conference Format Updates

In deference to ongoing safety precautions, the Pulp and Paper Safety Association (PPSA) recently changed the format of its annual conference from three days to two, now taking place Monday, October 18 through Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at the Omni ChampionsGate in Orlando, Fl. The golf outing is still scheduled for Sunday, October 17 with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m.

Additional efforts to ensure the safety all attendees at the conference include:

• Recommend six feet of social distancing
• Increased use of larger indoor spaces for relationship-building functions, allowing for social distancing
• More frequent sanitizing of high traffic areas
• Hand sanitizing stations provided throughout the hotel and at all food stations
• Food and beverage functions will have serving attendants and plexiglass shields
• Color-coded wristbands provided: Red = Keep 6ft for contact; Yellow = Limited contact; Green = Normal contact
• Face coverings will be required

The 77th Annual Health and Safety Conference offers forest safety professionals an exceptional educational experience focused on the latest trends, strategies and critical updates available across the entire industry spectrum. Attendees receive timely OSHA updates and hear expert-led presentations on ergonomics, employee engagement, and drone application in safety. They will also have the opportunity to hear from members of PPSA’s safety committee and selected innovators who will each give short 12-15 minute presentations. Additionally, the Conference features focused panels on serious injury and fatality (SIF) learnings and contractor safety.

Keynote Speaker Candace Carnahan kicks off the event with an inspirational story about how losing her leg at age 21 in a workplace incident changed her life forever. Her presentation, If You See Something, Say Something, stresses the importance of helping employees “find their voice” and look at everyday decisions as they potentially impact workers and their families. Additional event highlights include the Annual Awards Luncheon, Vendor Exposition and the New Technology Showcase.
