Domtar Donates $100,000 to Team Western Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund

Domtar has donated $100,000 to the Team Western Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund to assist those impacted by the tornadoes and severe weather that affected the region last week.

More than 70 people were killed after tornadoes tore through a 200-mile swath of southern and Midwest Kentucky for more than three hours on Saturday, Dec. 11. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear called the event “the worst, most devastating, most deadly tornado event in Kentucky’s history.”

“Domtar is proud to support this effort to help the people and communities in Western Kentucky recover from the devastation caused by the tornadoes,” says Paige Goff, Domtar’s Vice President of Sustainability. “We hope this contribution will play a part in helping affected families rebuild and move forward.”

In addition, Domtar’s Hawesville, Kentucky, paper mill – about 40 miles north of the storm’s path – has also donated $10,000 to the tornado relief fund in Hancock County, which is organized by mill retirees and local officials who are providing meals to the hardest hit regions.

“I’m very proud of how our employees and members of our local community have come together to help our neighbors in need,” says Murray Hewitt, Hawesville Mill Manager.
