TAPPI Industry Career Center: MEGI Engineering Seeks a Project Manager
MEGI Engineering Inc. is a full-service engineering design and consulting firm located in Portland, OR serving the pulp and paper, industrial, renewables, power and utility, and chemical markets. As a project manager, the successful candidate must be competent in performing, leading, and directing all aspects of engineering project execution, including planning, directing, supervising, and controlling all technical, fiscal, and administrative functions. Supervisory responsibility may include providing technical guidance and coordination for staff assigned to one or more projects, mentoring and developing staff, and interviewing and recruiting potential new hires. This position is client-facing with an emphasis on ensuring design, schedule, cost, scope, quality, and safety.
Responsibilities & Duties:
- Professional project management for engineering projects with industrial clients
- Deliver projects on time, within budget, and to approved specifications
- Establish, monitor, and report metrics for key performance indicators during project execution
- Provide team leadership on projects and act as the liaison between the client and the design team
- Establish the overall project execution plan
- Accountable to ensure project deliverables satisfy the project requirements within the agreed upon scope of work
- Review and approve all engineering deliverables
- Creation of communication plans and schedules, ensure information is exchanged among key stakeholders, and conduct status review meetings
- Determine, monitor, and review costs, budgets, schedules, and staffing requirements for project teams
- Mentor and train team members in project management fundamentals, procedures, and activities
- Obtain new work through client relationships and proposal development
Qualifications & Education:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering
- Professional Registration (PE) is desired
- Experience in project management or engineering leadership
- Pulp and Paper experience is highly desired, including some operations or technical leadership
- Knowledge of paper mill equipment, processes, and operations a plus
- Experience with engineering project delivery, construction, contract management, project delivery methods, scheduling, and team building
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of software (Excel, Work, PowerPoint, Project)
- Be organized and have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and be comfortable working in a fast paced environment
- Able to travel as required, and be able to rent cars and drive to and from client job sites
- Must pass a drug test, background check and have a satisfactory driving record per Company's policy
- US Citizenship and valid US Driver’s License
