Student Summit 2023

The TAPPI/PIMA Student Summit is an annual event designed for students interested in the pulp, paper, packaging and allied industries. It offers direct interaction with industry leaders as well as the opportunity to gain valuable information about employment and career development within their field.

The event is an excellent venue for advanced undergraduate and graduate students to learn about opportunities after graduation as well as some of the key challenges and opportunities existing in the industry today. It is the only event that brings students from paper and packaging schools together to reinforce their interest in joining the industry. Session topics have included Nanotechnology, Printed Electronics, and the State of the Industry, all topics that are not regularly taught as part of their curriculum.

PS&ChE Coating & Laminating in Packaging Applications

This course is designed for those working in paper converting, coating, printing and flexible packaging.

The content will be particularly beneficial to engineers, technicians, chemists, scientists, sales representatives, and customer service representatives. During this live and interactive session, you’ll hear from two professionals, Dr. Neil Leveridge, an Asst. Professor and Communication Strategist in the Department of Wood Science and Forestry at UBC, and Dr. Julien Bras, Head of Dept. of Papermaking and Environment Engineering at Grenoble Institute of Technology, talk briefly about their career paths.

This break will be moderated by the Nano Student Committee and will open the session to questions and further discussion with the audience.

Nanocellulose-Mycelium Hybrid Materials – Webinar (Free)
Tuesday, January 24th | 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM ET |

This Presentation will describe hybrid materials prepared from cellulose fibers and fungal mycelium, including proposed applications in packaging. Professor Tiffany Abitbol (EPFL in the Institute of Materials) will present an overview of the state of the art of myco-materials as well as some of our results and perspectives. The focus is on submerged fermentation, but aspects of solid fermentation will also be discussed.
