ACS Unwraps the Future of Microwave Susceptor Packaging

Coating professionals and industry leaders from around the world will gather at the Hilton Hotel in Cleveland, Ohio for TAPPI’s 16th Advanced Coating Symposium (ACS) on April 28, 2024. This focused event will showcase cutting-edge research and developments in the field of coatings.

ACS serves as a platform for industry experts, researchers, and professionals to discuss and explore the latest advancements in coating technology. The event features a keynote speaker, networking luncheons, and expert-led presentations delivered within three sessions: Unique Coating Considerations, Barrier Coating Concepts, and Important Barrier Coating Considerations.

Jonathan Levine of Folia Materials will present "Novel plant-based metallization coating creates the world's first paper microwave susceptor packaging" as part of the Unique Coating Considerations session. His presentation will unveil a 100% paper microwave food susceptor that features a patented plant-based metallization coating.

While traditional microwave susceptor packaging often uses plastic which can retain water and grease against the food, affecting its overall quality, Folia Materials' innovative solution aims to improve food quality by introducing a sustainable and environmentally friendly alternative. The plant-based metallization coating not only provides an eco-friendly solution but also enhances the food texture by absorbing grease, oil, and water, resulting in crisper dishes with better texture. Attendees can anticipate gaining valuable insights into the product development process, including coating optimization, manufacturing scaling, and application engineering.

ACS is strategically scheduled prior to TAPPICon 2024, which will also take place in Cleveland, Ohio. TAPPICon, April 28 – May 1, 2024, will provide a comprehensive platform focusing on key industry areas, including Coating, Printing and Surface Enhancement, Papermaking Additives, Papermaking Fundamentals, Papermaking Technology & Operations, Tissue, Management (PIMA), Process Control, and Recycled Paperboard (RPTA). Together, the events create a synergistic environment for professionals to gain knowledge, share experiences, and foster collaboration within the industry.
