TAPPISAFE Now Offering Dust Mitigation Course

For over a century, TAPPI has been the “go-to” resource for industry standards, education, and innovation. In 2012, TAPPI launched TAPPISAFE as the industry’s only standardized safety orientation and verification program, offering a unified approach across all industry segments.

Developed for and by the industry, TAPPISAFE is committed to helping companies maintain a culture of “safety first” tailored specifically to the pulp, paper, tissue, packaging and converting industry. More than 100 facilities and 10,000 contractors and suppliers are currently enrolled and taking advantage of the cost savings, time efficiencies and reduced regulatory scrutiny that TAPPISAFE provides.

As part of its comprehensive TAPPISAFE 101 Course offerings and Course Library, TAPPISAFE recently announced the addition of a Dust Mitigation Course, as well as the OSHA 10/30 Hour Courses.

Dust Awareness and Safety

Historically, in one 20-year period alone there were as many as 200 dust explosions, resulting in 600 injuries and 100 fatalities*. Statistics like these highlight the crucial need for comprehensive dust mitigation and safety awareness. TAPPISAFE’s new Dust Mitigation Course is designed to address this critical need for effective dust management in industrial settings like paper mills, tissue mills and box plants, enhancing workplace safety and compliance with regulatory standards. It covers a wide range of topics essential for understanding and managing dust hazards effectively.

Course participants learn about the characteristics of combustible dust, potential ignition sources, dust exposure limits, and methods for controlling and minimizing dust accumulation. The course also emphasizes the importance of proper housekeeping practices and equipment maintenance, focusing on proactive measures to prevent dust-related accidents. By educating workers about the risks associated with combustible dust and providing them with practical strategies for mitigating those risks, mills and box plants can enhance workplace safety, protect their assets, and promote a culture of safety excellence.

OSHA 10-Hour Courses (General Industry and Construction)

TAPPISAFE's OSHA 10-hour courses serve as a cornerstone for entry-level workers seeking to fortify their understanding of safety protocols in the workplace. These foundational programs cover a broad spectrum of crucial topics, including hazard recognition and prevention, emergency response procedures, and the proper utilization of personal protective equipment (PPE). By completing this course, participants not only enhance their safety acumen but also contribute to a culture of safety within their organizations. The benefits of the OSHA 10-hour course extend beyond individual development, fostering a safer work environment that ultimately translates into improved productivity and reduced incident rates. Both the General Industry and the Construction 10-Hour Courses are offered in English and Spanish.

OSHA 30-Hour Course

For supervisors, managers, and safety professionals looking to delve deeper into safety management and leadership, TAPPISAFE offers the OSHA 30-hour course. Building upon the foundational principles covered in the OSHA 10-hour courses, this advanced program provides participants with a greater understanding of safety regulations, hazard mitigation strategies, and incident investigation techniques. Moreover, the OSHA 30-hour course equips participants with additional skills necessary to develop safety programs tailored to the specific needs of their organizations. By completing this course, participants emerge as safety champions, capable of driving meaningful change within their workplaces. The OSHA-30 Hour course if offered in both English and Spanish.
