The demand to train new operators at a faster rate is greater than ever. While process control technology gives new operators excellent information on “what” is happening, NPT2 elearning courses help address the “why” things happen to paint a more complete picture.
Created under a grant from the National Science Foundation, the National Network for Pulp & Paper Technical Training (NPT2) comprehensive eLearning courses are designed to quickly and thoroughly train both new operators and technical professionals. NPT2 courses can fill gaps for experienced operators so they can be better equipped to train new operators. The NPT2 courses are introductory to intermediate level trainings designed by experienced educators who have taught content to thousands of mill personnel.
Explore a wide range of NPT2 courses. Available courses include Pulp Manufacturing Technology, Chemical Recovery, Paper Manufacturing Technology, Wet End Chemistry, Tissue Manufacturing Technology, Paper Machine Optimization and more.

Did You Know There is a TAPPI Standard for the Training of Paper Machine Supervisors and Operators?
TAPPI/ANSI T 1501 sg-18: Training Standard for Paper Machine Tender is an essential onboarding tool as it provides guidelines for skills and knowledge needed by a paper machine operator. It can be used as a useful measure of the capabilities and understanding that a person must have to successfully perform the important paper machine operation functions as part of a technologically advanced workforce. It is also valuable for guiding the additional training of all supervisors, experienced operators and new operators. Download your free copy now.
NPT2 Director Michael J. Kocurek was instrumental in developing this training standard. Dr. Kocurek is Professor Emeritus, Paper Science & Engineering, Department of Forest Biomaterials, North Carolina State University.
