New TAPPI Nano Division Webinar: Preparation and Applications of Hemicellulose

TAPPI’s Nano Division is organizing a new informational webinar to highlight the research progress of eco-friendly pretreatments to produce cellulose nanofibrils with preserved hemicellulose or lignin. The webinar will be presented by Dr. Xuan (Justin) Yang, assistant professor in the College of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Zhejiang University.

Preparation and Applications of Hemicellulose Webinar

9:30am – 10:30am (ET)

Monday, October 7, 2024

Cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs) are a class of emerging sustainable nanomaterials derived from natural resources, while the production often involves harsh chemical treatments and high energy-demanding nanofibrillation process, it is critical to develop more high value-added advanced applications in order to drive mass production of CNFs, which can in turn reduce costs.

In this webinar, you'll learn about the research progress of Yang's lab (Team Cellulose at Zhejiang University), and the eco-friendly pretreatments to produce CNFs with preserved hemicellulose or lignin.

Webinar attendance is open to everyone and there is no cost to attend, but registration is required.

Meet the Speaker

Dr. Xuan (Justin) Yang

Dr. Yang is a “Hundred Talent” tenure-track assistant professor in the College of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Zhejiang University (China). He has ten years of extensive research training on bio-based materials including pulp and paper, nanocellulose, and biocomposites, under the supervision of Professor Emily Cranston (McMaster University, Canada) and Professor Lars Berglund (KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden), before he joined Zhejiang University in 2020. Dr. Yang’s research group (Team Cellulose) is currently focusing on biomass chemical engineering, especially with a scope of “taking inspiration from nature, harnessing bio-based components, and engineering high-performance materials to meet the growing demand for sustainable products and processes.” He is the recipient of Distinguished Young Scholars of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (Overseas) and the winner of the China Innovation Challenge (Zhejiang Province) in 2022. He is also currently serving as an editorial board member of Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering.
