Somas Appoints New CEO

After three decades of successful leadership, Peter Hägg is stepping down as CEO and handing the role over to Jan Dahlén on January 1st, 2025. Peter, who has been a central part of the company’s growth and development will remain the owner of Somas together with his brother Lars Hägg to ensure a smooth transition.

Both Peter and Lars will remain on the board of directors to ensure continuity and stability in terms of company management.

Under Peter’s leadership Somas has undergone an impressive journey. The business has expanded internationally with subsidiaries in Germany and China and has seen a significant increase in employees and revenue. The number of employees in Säffle has increased from 90 to 185, and the share of export sales of Somas products have gone from 20% to 85%. Revenue has increased from 100 MSEK 1994/95 to 650 MSEK 2023/24.

A new chapter with Jan Dahlén at the helm
Jan Dahlén, who is taking over as CEO, has a lot of experiences from different fields and roles, including sales and business development. He has a strong connection to Somas and Säffle and is looking forward to continuing to build on the company’s successes.

“I am honored to have received this opportunity and am looking forward to leading Somas into the future. We will continue to focus on the long-term, stability and development, and I view our colleagues as a central part of that moving forward”, says Jan.

Jan plans to continue to develop Somas while focusing on quality, sustainability, digitalization and strong customer relations. He also emphasizes the importance of maintaining the sense of “family” Somas has built and wants to continue to be viewed as an attractive place of work where employees feel at home and wish to learn and grow.

"We’re facing an exciting future, both in terms of demand and growth over the last few years. We have several important projects coming down the line, both for our customers and markets, but also internally. These initiatives will push us forward and ensure that we remain leaders in our various business segments,” says Jan.

New roles and continued commitments
To further strengthen company management Mats Nilsson, current CFO, will enter a new role as Vice President. This change will contribute to ensuring a smooth transition and continued success.

Peter expresses his gratitude for the decades of support and collaboration. “It has been a fantastic journey, and I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together. I have full faith in Jan and am looking forward to following Somas’ continued journey forward.”
