Special TAPPI Journal Issue Pays Tribute to Peter W. Hart, Ph.D.

With Peter Hart, Ph.D.’s passing in the spring of 2024, many of his fellow TAPPI Journal (TJ) editorial board members, peers, and colleagues reflected on the lasting significance of his contributions to TAPPI and the industry at large. The special December 2024 tribute issue of TJ compiled some of Peter’s past contributions to the publication as selected by those individuals familiar with his research, and many of the papers highlight his dedication to collaborative work.

Peter’s contributions to TJ cannot be overstated. In addition to publishing numerous papers in the journal through the years, he was editor-in-chief for three terms, as well as associate editor for another three terms, providing valuable leadership regarding the publishing process. He also organized or co-organized at least 16 special issues of the Journal from 2011 through early 2024 when he passed away.

Honghi Tran, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus, University of Toronto, another prolific contributor to TJ, recently observed that “Peter did a phenomenal job as technical editor and editor-in-chief for many years, and I can’t think of anyone who has contributed to TAPPI more than he did. With all the textbooks he edited and published, as well as all the training courses that he participated in as an instructor, Peter’s contributions are unmatchable. The textbooks and journal articles he published or helped publish will certainly be with the industry for a long, long time.”

In addition to the tribute issue, TAPPI will also highlight the featured papers in a special campaign on LinkedIn. Be sure to follow #TAPPI on that platform to share your thoughts and comments as the campaign rolls out.
