Elevate Your Paper Industry Skills in 2025 with UWSP’s Specialized Short Courses

TAPPI and the Paper Science & Chemical Engineering (PS&ChE) Department at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) are bringing you a series of five laboratory-focused short courses throughout 2025.

These engaging two-day courses offer an immersive learning experience focused on key aspects of the paper industry, including paper machine operations, paper additives, formation processes, and coatings. Through carefully crafted exercises, you will gain a deeper understanding of these critical topics by observing and engaging with real-world applications. Each course is designed for a small group of 16 participants, ensuring personalized attention, ample opportunities for questions, and valuable hands-on experience. These courses are ideal for industry newcomers, machine operators, managers (operating, financial, and sales), maintenance staff, and training professionals.

Hands-On Papermaking Course
Date: March 20-21, 2025
Register by February 20th to take advantage of early bird savings! 

This introductory class features morning classroom sessions followed by afternoon sessions of guided exercises operating the UW-Stevens Point Fourdrinier pilot paper machine. Topics covered in this course include pulp and papermaking operations, with more information about papermaking processes and equipment.

Advanced Papermaking: Additives
Date: April 10-11, 2025
Register by March 13 to take advantage of early bird savings!

This course provides an overview of common paper making additives used in the industry today. You will participate in discussions focused on where additives are introduced into the paper making process, potential interactions with both equipment and other additives and the relationship between additives and enhanced performance of paper. This course features hands-on exercises on the UW-Stevens Point pilot paper machine where attendees will produce paper with different additives.
