UPM Kymi Pulp Mill Temporarily Down

The ongoing industrial strike in the chemical industry in Finland has forced UPM to suspend production at the company’s UPM Kymi pulp mill. Operations at Kymi paper mill are not affected.

A spokesperson for UPM explained that the Kymi pulp mill had to be shut down due to problems with the supply of chemicals caused by the current strike in the chemical industry segment. The pulp mill was shut down on 3 February and is expected to remain idle until the end of the strike action, that is, until supply of chemicals to the pulp mill’s chemical plant is restored.

Kymi pulp mill in Kuusankoski, near Kouvola runs two fibre lines producing 870,000 tpy of birch and softwood pulp.

Production of printing, writing and specialty paper at the Kymi paper mill is not affected by the strike, UPM confirmed.
