The Confederation of European Paper Industries (CEPI), Brussels, Belgium, this week released its 2013 Key Statistics, tracking the industry’s overall performance last year. The report includes data about production, consumption, and the trade of pulp, paper, and raw materials, as well as data on energy and the environment.

AkzoNobel, Amsterdam, the Netherlands, this week announced the intended sale of its global Paper Chemicals business to Kemira, Finland, for EUR 153 million. Paper Chemicals is part of the company’s Pulp and Performance Chemicals business and generated annual revenue of EUR 243 million in 2013.

According to an Associated Press news report, Green Bay Converting, Green Bay, Wis., USA, will open a plant in Mississippi to make paper towels and tissue, creating 300 new jobs.

A new report by Smithers Pira, U.K., titled The Future of Sustainable Packaging to 2018, notes that within the recycled materials market, paper packaging is the largest sector, accounting for around 65% of all recycled packaging.

According to a new report titled Paper Coating Materials Market by Type, Application, and Geography - Regional Trends & Forecast to 2019, being offered by Research and Markets, Dublin, Ireland, the paper coating materials market was at an estimated $6.5 billion in 2013, with the highest share of more than 50% held by the Asia-Pacific and ROW together.

Tissue producer Atlas Paper Mills LLC, Miami, Fla., USA, a portfolio company of Peak Rock Capital, Austin, Texas, has acquired Accurate Paper Recycling Inc., Tampa, Fla., a supplier of paper recycling services.

Turkish tissue producer Hayat Kimya has ordered its fifth Advantage DCT 200 tissue line from Valmet, Finland. The line will add 70.000 metric tpy of high quality tissue to Hayat Kimya's current production of facial, toilet, and towel tissue.

International Paper, Memphis, Tenn., USA, this past week announced the completion of its previously announced spinoff of xpedx, and xpedx's merger with Unisource, with the combined companies now operating as Veritiv Corp.

Neenah Paper Inc., Alpharetta, Ga., USA, has completed the purchase of Crane Technical Materials Inc. from Crane & Co.

Sepac, Brazil, has started up its new 35,000 metric tpy Voith (Germany) tissue machine (PM 5) at its mill in Mallet, Paraná state, Brazil, according to a report by RISI, Brussels, Belgium.

Södra Cell, Sweden, has ordered form Valmet, Finland, a new wood chipping plant for its Mörrum pulp mill in Sweden.

Torraspape, Spain, reports that after negotiations this past week with employee representatives on the viability or closure of its mill in Sarrià de Ter (Girona, Spain), the company reached an agreement to close the facility, relocating 73 of its 132 employees to other group manufacturing sites in Spain.

Weyerhaeuser Co., Federal Way, Wash., USA, this week announced the successful closing of its previously announced "Reverse Morris Trust" transaction, by which a wholly owned subsidiary of TRI Pointe Homes Inc. merged with and into Weyerhaeuser Real Estate Co. (WRECO), Weyerhaeuser's homebuilding business and an indirect wholly owned subsidiary, with WRECO surviving the merger and becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of TRI Pointe.

Greif, Delaware, Ohio, USA, has announced the expansion of its Southeastern Packaging Sheet Feeder Operation in Concord, N.C. The operation will add a second advanced corrugator by mid-2015.

Orient Paper Inc., Baoding, Hebei, China, a producer of diversified paper products in North China, this week announced that it has ramped up its renovated PM 1.

Asia-based packaging paper producer SCG Paper has ordered from Andritz, Graz, Austria, a semichemical pulp fiberline for its Wangsala mill in Thailand.

Schumacher Packaging, Germany, has started up its new, ultra-modern corrugated packaging plant in Greven, Germany.

Sun Paper, China, has ordered from Voith, Germany, three paper machines for the production of packaging and graphic paper.
