Graphic paper is facing huge challenges in particular; however, demand for printing paper continues to grow in certain emerging markets. Demand for packaging material will continue to grow globally by a consistent percentage. Experts cited forecast a strong need for structural changes in the paper industry as a result of these anticipated future trends. Conversions from traditional papermaking to paper packaging production is one option for mills to consider.

Fox River is a "green" producer of premium deinked pulp using post-consumer wastepaper, operating out of a highly automated state-of-the-art facility. The company’s products are sold to paper mills for use in printing and writing, tissue and towel, and FDA grade recycled paper applications. This transaction is designed to set the company for significant growth.

Japan’s market for printing paper is continuing to contract by significant margins, as reported earlier this week. Companies now concentrate on packaging, energy production, and hygiene and diaper production. Japan's paper companies are also introducing novel concepts for utilizing paper-based fiber in new batteries being released to the market for the first time to help meet new efficiency standards adopted by their international trading partners.

This accolade for Spooner, a well-known manufacturer of industrial process machinery for the P&P industry, follows a visit of PM David Cameron last month. The visit included meeting the directors and a tour of offices and the factory floor in the wake of a buoyant order book and continued year-on-year growth. Commenting on his visit, PM Cameron said that "Spooner is a great example of the kind of ‘advanced manufacturing’ businesses this government is trying to get behind."

In 2014, the company launched the world's first fully renewable carton package made solely from paperboard and plant-based plastics. The package is currently being trialed in retail outlets across the country. TP secured the FSCT Chain of Custody certification for the last seven of its 92 facilities and legal entities worldwide last year as well. This means the company can deliver FSC labelled packages from anywhere in the world.

New Products
Archroma, Reinach, Switzerland, a global manufacturer of specialty chemicals, has announced U.S. FDA approval for the use of its new Cartaguard® KST in the production of paper and board for food packaging.

Three of the top paper companies operating across the globe have all recently introduced new signature lines of inkjet paper - the new products are all geared toward use in high speed printing applications, a promising sector for promoting more individually focused commercial (paper-based) labeling technology.

Energy
Incorporating diesel refined from renewable biomass through advanced hydrotreating technology, Propel's 'HGR' fuel based on its NEXBTL formula meets the toughest specifications required by automotive and engine manufacturers, enabling the fuel to be used by any diesel vehicle. Wood-based and cane-sourced cellulosic biomass diesel may reach up to 70% greenhouse gas reduction vs. traditional petroleum diesel.

The new heating station will produce process steam for the SCA Hygiene Products paper mill and the Nokian Renkaat factory, as well as district heat for residential customers. The fossil natural gas previously used for energy production will be replaced with more affordable biofuels, such as timber chips and whole tree chips. In addition, the boiler can utilize milled peat and sludge from the paper mill.

Loggers separate and sell their harvested fiber for the highest possible value for use in construction, furniture, or pulp and paper. Otherwise, there would be pricing issues with these valuable forest resources, none of which are now designed to go to waste, which should be considered a great development and leap forward for the domestic forest industries.
