In 2014, there were a great number of newly-added capacities for dissolving pulp, such as Sappi's 330 metric tpy capacity in North America, Double A (Thailand's) 175,000 metric tpy of capacity, and 110,000 metric tpy of capacity at OJI (Japan). However, due to a constantly-depressed downstream viscose fiber market, the price of dissolving pulp continued to drop.

August Shipments were 143,600 short tons, 7.8% higher than in August 2014. Bleached kraft paper shipments increased slightly from 8,600 tons in July 2015 to 8,700 tons in August, while unbleached kraft paper decreased from 138,600 to 134,900 short tons.

Packaging site in Plymouth, England, has contributed to the 20 metric tons of corrugated board dust collected and sent to the Eden Project (U.K.) to help turn its food waste into compost.

IP will partner with Premier for distribution of its flagship GC1 coated paperboard product, Arktika, in the U.K. market. Arktika is a high quality, fully coated GC1 folding boxboard with a coated reverse side, manufactured at IP’s Kwidzyn mill in Poland.

Once the coating process is activated, research shows that a biological and completely organic process can allow nanoparticles of silver to be microscopically attached to paper.

New Products
Tetra Pak® TR/G7, a low cost, easy-to-operate high performance filling machine for chilled distribution has a capacity of 6,500 gable top packages per hour, and delivers significant environmental benefits compared with equivalent machines in the market, with for example electricity consumption cut by a third.

The new packaging introduced by the company is made from sustainably sourced virgin and recycled pulp as part of marketing organically grown vegetables. In 2012 the U.S. recycled 76.1% of the paperboard packaging generated. In that same year, the U.S. recycled 13.8% of all plastic packaging generated.

Danny G. Johansen will retire as president of the pulp and paperboard division. Patrick T. Burke, who currently serves as president of the consumer products division, will assume the newly created consolidated role of group president overseeing both the pulp and paperboard and consumer products businesses.

The 10-year review of T 602 cm-06, "Analysis of Sulfuric Acid," has been delayed due to lack of SSIG members. This method describes analytical procedures for the testing of sulfuric acid used in pulp and paper manufacture to determine total acidity, Baumé gravity, nonvolatile matter, iron, sulfur dioxide, and arsenic.
