Weekly Spotlight
NRCS will make up to $50 million available to help create or expand state government and tribal programs that encourage landowners and land managers to allow public access to their land for hunting, fishing and other wildlife-dependent recreation. NRCS is accepting proposals through November 27 from state governments and tribes for the Voluntary Public Access and Habitat Incentive Program.

Pulp & Paper
A.Celli Paper s.p.a, Italy, supplied a new pope reel section for Mosaico Group’s multi-cylinder PM5. Since the start up, the mill has been able to improve efficiency and quality of wrapping.

Voith has signed an agreement with Spectris plc to acquire BTG for a total gross cash consideration of €319 million. With BTG, a multinational provider of integrated, highly specialized process solutions for the global pulp and paper industry, Voith strengthens its position as a full-line supplier. The transaction is expected to close late in the fourth quarter of 2019.

The Union Bulletin ( https://www.union-bulletin.com/) reports that Columbia Pulp is in the final stages of launching the first straw pulp mill of its kind in North America. The operation reached a major milestone last week with the mechanical completion signoff for general contractor Pacific Civil & Infrastructure. Federal Way, Wash.,-based PCI was expected to be off the clock over the weekend and exited the site in the next week.

Containerboard/Packaging
The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) has released the August 2019 Containerboard Monthly report. According to the report, containerboard production in August 2019 decreased 2.4 percent compared to August 2018 and was down 4.9 percent year-to-date. The average daily production compared to July 2019 was 3.2 percent higher

Graphic Packaging Holding Company (NYSE: GPK), a leading provider of packaging solutions to food, beverage, foodservice, and other consumer products companies, today announced that its Kalamazoo, Michigan mill will be the location for the new coated recycled board (CRB) machine. The Company will invest $600 million in the project, and the machine is expected to have an annual capacity of approximately 500,000 tons.

Most of the paper packaging material made by Canadian mills today is 100% recycled content. Old corrugated boxes and cartons are collected from the back of factories and supermarkets; used paper from offices; and a wide range of paper material gathered and sorted from residential (Blue Box) programs across the country.

Sustainability
Valmet invests in a new pilot facility at its Fiber Technology Center in Sundsvall to strengthen the company’s research and development capabilities related to bioenergy, biofuels and biochemicals. The new pilot facility will start up in October 2020.

The Association of Independent Printing Paper Merchants (AIPPM) announced that Jim Pearce of Cenveo, a 38-year veteran sales and sales management representative in the envelope industry, has been selected as the recipient of the 2019 Peyton Shaner Award. The presentation wasat the 2019 AIPPM Fall Conference at the Hilton Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska.
