Two Sides reports that the ninth annual Power of Print seminar was a resounding success, bringing together leading speakers from all corners of advertising, marketing and sustainability. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) has presented Neenah, Inc. with the prestigious FSC Leadership Award for being one of the first premium paper companies to offer FSC® Certified papers, and for being the first mill, worldwide, to watermark the FSC symbol and Chain of Custody into its papers.

After all required regulatory approvals were received, Voith successfully closed on the acquisition of BTG on December 1, 2019. The Swiss-based company offers a high-value portfolio of optimized and customized solutions for a range of applications, primarily for paper manufacturers.

ANDRITZ welcomed a delegation of more than 25 experts from different mills and locations of the Mondi Group at its headquarters in Graz to discuss major technology trends and the latest innovations in the pulp and paper industries.

Pulp & Paper
Valmet will deliver key technology for upgrading the SCA Obbola mill’s pulp production in Sweden. Valmet’s delivery includes a new fossil free lime kiln and upgrade of the existing fiberline. The pulp production upgrades will happen in stages. The upgraded fiberline will start up in June 2021 and the new lime kiln is scheduled to start up during the last quarter of 2021.

The new production line for machine-glazed specialty papers for Papierfabrik August Koehler SE went into operation at the end of October 2019. With a volume of 300 million euros, this is the largest single investment in Koehler's company history. Production line 8 was installed at the company's Kehl site in a project time of only two and a half years and consists of a BlueLine stock preparation unit, wet end process, XcelLine paper machine, offline coating machine and VariPlus winder.

Coca-Cola and its strategic bottling partners Coca-Cola HBC and Coca-Cola European Partners announced that they will begin rolling out the KeelClipTM, an innovative, minimalist paperboard packaging solution, on multipack cans across Europe. This move, representing a first for the non-alcohol ready-to-drink (NARTD) industry, underscores the Coca-Cola system’s commitment to pioneer packaging solutions that are more sustainable in terms of recyclability and overall environmental footprint as it works towards its global goals for a World Without Waste.

EUWID reports that production at Cartiera Pieretti's recycled corrugated case material mill in Italy is currently down. The responsible trade union representative of the mill told EUWID that the site's machine had been standing still since 25 November. It is not yet clear if the company will continue operating or if it will go bankrupt.

Voith has enhanced its commitment to the North American paper industry with the installation of one of the largest looms of its kind in North America. The multi-million dollar investment will allow the manufacturer to provide perfectly-fit dewatering fabrics for its customers across North America and worldwide markets.

Sustainability
Stora Enso has entered into a strategic collaboration with HS Manufacturing Group (HSMG), a producer of plant-based barrier coatings, to develop Stora Enso’s formed fiber offering. Stora Enso will leverage HSMG’s PROTĒAN™ technology for food contact packaging applications. The technology offers a biodegradable and recyclable additive that gives fiber-based packaging water, grease, and oil-resistant properties.

Kimberly-Clark Corporation (NYSE: KMB) today announced that Chief Executive Officer Michael D. Hsu has been elected to the additional role of Chairman of the company's Board of Directors effective January 1, 2020. Hsu, 55, succeeds Thomas J. Falk, who plans to retire from the company and the Board at the end of the year after serving as Chairman for the past 16 years.

Effective January 1, 2020, upon the retirement of his predecessor, Mr. David Anderson will be appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Millar Western Forest Products. In 14 years with the company, Dave has garnered extensive experience in all aspects of our business, from product marketing and development through finance to the executive management of operations in his current role as Chief Operating Officer.
