Verso Corporation (NYSE: VRS) announced that, in connection with the pending sale of its Androscoggin and Stevens Point mills to Pixelle Specialty Solutions LLC (the "Pixelle Transaction"), it has received requisite approval under Section 203 of the Federal Power Act from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

Resolute Forest Products Inc. recently announced the construction of a commercial plant specializing in the production of cellulose filaments, a new sustainable biomaterial derived from wood fiber, at its Kénogami paper mill in Quebec as well as the optimization of the mill, at a total cost of $38 million.

Verso Corporation (NYSE: VRS) announced that promptly following the consummation of the proposed sale of Verso's Androscoggin and Stevens Point mills to Pixelle Specialty Solutions (the "Pixelle Transaction"), the Verso Board intends to return net proceeds from the Pixelle Transaction to stockholders in an aggregate amount of up to $282 million and not less than $225 million.

JK Paper, one of the largest pulp & paper producer in India has selected BTG to supply all the specialty process measurements in the planned relocation of pulp mill and the new board machine project at their Central Pulp mill, Songadh, Gujarat site.

Headquartered in Belo Oriente, State of Minas Gerais, Celulose Nipo-Brasileira S.A. (CENIBRA) set a new annual production record in 2019, with an output of 1,222,888 tons of bleached eucalyptus hardwood pulp. This figure is 16,676 tons above the budget. In a statement, the Company’s management congratulated employees on the historic landmark.

Containerboard/Packaging
The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) released its December 2019 Containerboard Monthly Report. According to the report, total containerboard production in December increased two percent compared to December 2018 and was down four percent when compared to the same 12 months of 2018.

Dunapack Packaging, part of Austrian Prinzhorn Group, has started preparation works for its new packaging plant in Dunavarsány, 15 KM South of Budapest. The total production capacity will be 240 mio. m2/year.

President and CEO Heidi Brock praised the Senate for ratifying the U.S. – Mexico – Canada (USMCA) trade agreement and issued a statement.

New Products
Valmet launches a completely redesigned Valmet Microwave Consistency Measurement – Valmet MCA (patent pending) for pulp and paper makers. Valmet MCA is now provided by digital electronics and the new Direct Sweep Detection measurement to offer higher performance measurement sensitivity and accuracy than competing analog designs.

Sustainability
Valmet has been recognized for its actions and strategy to mitigate climate change by receiving the best A rating in CDP's climate program ranking for the second consecutive year. CDP's evaluation is based on the company's 2019 disclosure about its actions in the last reporting year to develop the low-carbon technology and solutions, cut emissions and mitigate climate risks.

The supervisory board of Mayr-Melnhof Karton Aktiengesellschaft has MMag. Peter Oswald (57) appointed the company's new CEO and CEO for a five-year term. Peter Oswald will become a member of the Executive Board from April 1, 2020.

Pixelle Specialty Solutions (“Pixelle”) has named John P. Jacunski Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Mr. Jacunski will report to Timothy R. Hess, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Pixelle.
