When the British Academy of Film and Television Arts was planning the 73rd Awards organizers were keen to take a step towards greater sustainability. One of the big changes for 2020 saw the traditional prestigious gift bags given to the nominees and presenters replaced with a sustainable gifting wallet, filled with a selection of plastic-free experience and gift cards made of paperboard.

Clyde Industries, a leading provider of boiler efficiency solutions for the pulp & paper industries, has received an order from ANDRITZ to supply boiler cleaning equipment for Bracell’s Project “STAR” in Lençóis Paulista, in the state of São Paulo, Brazil.

To address misleading environmental claims, Two Sides North America and FPAC have worked together with several Canadian organizations to change their marketing messages related to print and paper. For example, unsubstantiated claims such as “go green – go paperless” and “save trees” are regularly used by companies to encourage customers to switch from paper to less costly electronic bills and statements.

Valmet introduces a full range of new, data-driven Industrial Internet solutions to pulp, board, paper, tissue and energy producers. The Valmet Industrial Internet (VII) solutions combine advanced monitoring and prediction applications, Advanced Process Controls (APC), dynamic process simulators and remote services from Valmet Performance Centers into comprehensive solutions that provide tangible benefits to customers.

Resolute Forest Products Inc. (NYSE: RFP) (TSX: RFP) announced that, on February 1, 2020, it completed the previously disclosed acquisition of Conifex Timber Inc.’s three sawmills in the U.S. South, pursuant to the terms of the securities purchase agreement dated December 23, 2019. The total purchase price was $163 million, plus working capital, which is estimated at $13 million.

Valmet will deliver cooking and fiberline to Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Ltd. (TNPL) for their unit 2, located in Mondipatti in the Trichy District, India. The site has a 200,000 tons per year multilayer board machine, which has been in operation since 2016. The new pulp mill will have a capacity of 165,000 tons per year of bleached hardwood kraft pulp and the start-up is planned for the first quarter of 2021.

Dunapack Packaging, part of Austrian Prinzhorn Group, has started preparation works for its new packaging plant in Dunavarsány, 15 KM South of Budapest. The total production capacity will be 240 mio. m2/year.

Ahlstrom-Munksjö has added a new release paper solution to its offering of sustainable alternatives to aluminum and plastics in single-use products, which provide high standards of safety and compliance for food contact.

Cascades announced that it has received a DUX Grand Prix Award for its latest food packaging innovation: a 100% recycled and recyclable cardboard tray. According to Cascades, the fresh food tray uses a water-based, functional barrier that protects it from humidity, which enhances the packaging's performance without making the cardboard less recyclable.

After just over seven years as President and CEO, Lars Idermark has informed the Board that he will be leaving Södra. The Board will now initiate a recruitment process for a new President and CEO.

Clearwater Paper Corporation (NYSE: CLW) announced that its board of directors (the “board”) has unanimously elected Arsen S. Kitch, the company’s senior vice president and general manager of its consumer products division, as its next chief executive officer, effective April 1, 2020. Upon becoming CEO, Mr. Kitch will be appointed to the board.

Sonoco (NYSE: SON) announced its Board of Directors has unanimously elected R. Howard Coker, the Company’s current senior vice president of its Paper/Industrial Converted Products segment, as its president and chief executive officer, effective immediately.
