Smurfit Kappa has announced its strategy to expand its paper sack business in the Americas in a $36 million investment. As part of the investment, a new cutting-edge Windmöller production line that will increase the company’s sack production by 100 million additional units per year will begin operating in 2021 in Palmira, Colombia.

Since 2010, the Two Sides campaign has changed or removed misleading environmental claims of over 500 organizations, including many of the world’s largest corporations. 2019 was the busiest year to date for Two Sides’ Anti-greenwash campaign.

Papeterie Le Bourray selected Toscotec to rebuild its PM4 tissue machine at Saint-Mars-la-Brière, near Le Mans, France. The start-up is scheduled for mid-2020.

According to preliminary figures, the European paper and board production has decreased by 3.0% in 2019, compared to the previous year. 2019 saw new capacities coming on stream, and upgrades of existing ones, but closures and lower production operating rates dragged down paper and board production. This downward trend was observed in all the top paper and board producing countries.

A new Freedonia Group analysis projects healthy 4.5% annual growth for the global packaging machinery market through 2023, driven by global increases in manufacturing activity, rising mechanization in developing countries, and high-value sales of state-of-the-art equipment in affluent markets.

Valmet will supply a Defibrator system to Guangxi Shangsi Hualin Forestry Industry Co., Ltd. in China. The start-up of the system is planned for the middle of 2020.

Wes Carter, President of Atlantic Corporation of Wilmington, has announced the acquisition of Coastal Corrugated, a 35-year-old family owned box company located in North Charleston, SC.

Voith introduces UpElement to its expanding portfolio of tissue press fabrics. The modular treatment increases efficiency by achieving significantly faster startup times. Through an optimized surface enhancement, UpElement improves dewatering properties during startup. As a result, manufacturers benefit from a higher production yield over the run of one felt cycle.

Mondi plc (“Mondi” or “the Group”) announces that Andrew King, Group Chief Financial Officer (“CFO”) and a director of Mondi plc, will be appointed as Group Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”) with effect from April 1, 2020. Andrew will succeed Peter Oswald who, as announced on January 10, 2020, will be stepping down as CEO and leaving Mondi plc on March 31, 2020.

The Supervisory Board of Lenzing AG, the world’s leading producer of botanic cellulose fibers, has appointed two new members to the company’s Management Board. Stephan Sielaff will serve as the new Chief Technology Officer effective March 1, 2020, succeeding Heiko Arnold, who left the Lenzing Group in November 2019.
