The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) released its February 2020 Printing-Writing Monthly report. According to the report, total printing-writing paper shipments decreased five percent in February compared to February 2019. U.S. purchases of total printing-writing papers decreased six percent in February compared to the same month last year.

Pulp & Paper
Monomoy Capital Partners, a private investment firm with $1.6 billion in committed capital that invests in the debt and equity of middle market businesses, announced today that it has acquired Mac Papers, Inc., Mac Paper Converters, Inc. and All Square Digital Solutions, Inc. (collectively “Mac Papers”), the leading regional distributor of paper, packaging, wide format and envelope products in the Southeastern United States. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

NPR reports that representatives of Sun Paper Co., the $1.5 billion paper mill project slated for Clark County near Arkadelphia, have said the deal is officially terminated.

Containerboard/Packaging
The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) released its February 2020 Boxboard Monthly report. Total Boxboard production in February decreased one percent compared to February 2019. It was down one percent when compared to the same two months of 2019.

Valmet will supply key board making technologies to Sri Andal Paper Mills for its new containerboard making line, located in Tamil Nadu, India. The start-up of the machine is scheduled for the first half of 2021.

New Products
Voith has developed a new generation of sensors with regards to availability, reliability and maintenance handling. As the main components of the Quality Measurement System, the sensors measure the most important quality parameters of the paper being produced, such as basis weight, moisture, caliper and ash.

Sonoco (NYSE: SON), recently named to Barron’s 100 Most Sustainable Companies, in partnership with Tellus®, a packaging company based in Belle Glade, Fla. and jointly owned by Florida Crystals Corporation and Sugar Cane Growers Cooperative of Florida, announced the introduction of its first, 100% U.S. sourced, sugarcane-based fiber bowl for refrigerated, frozen and prepared foods.

ANDRITZ has recently started up the world’s first biomethanol plant using ANDRITZ’s self-developed A-Recovery+ concept at the Södra Cell Mönsterås pulp mill in southeastern Sweden. The plant has an annual production capacity of 6.3 million liters of biomethanol from forest biomass.
