A technological innovation capable of producing up to 10 thousand face masks per minute, which can be adapted to all main "non-woven" materials, including a particular bamboo-based material that can be disposed of with other organic waste. This is the patent filed by Fabio Perini, a Lucca based company which is part of the Körber Tissue Business Area.

Stora Enso and Helsinki Olympic Stadium share the aim of promoting the use of renewable materials in customer and food service packaging to reduce the climate impact of stadium operations. In addition, the aim is to ensure that materials get recycled to a high degree.

ANDRITZ has successfully started up the first of two OCC lines, each with a capacity of 1,000 bdtm/d, supplied to Shandong Wamat Paper Co., Shandong Province, China. Start-up of the second OCC line is scheduled for the end of this year.

Sappi Europe is very happy to report that paper machine 3 (PM3) at the Alfeld Mill in Germany is operational again as of the 20th of July — significantly ahead of the planned restart date. As previously reported, the largest area of reconstruction focused on the machine hall with limited damage to the machine itself.

Iggesund Paperboard’s mill in Iggesund Sweden has been awarded the Platinum level by the international assessment company EcoVadis. EcoVadis assesses companies' CSR achievements and has performed more than 65,000 assessments in over 200 sectors in 160 countries.

Södra’s operating profit during Q2 was stable given current market conditions. Deliveries were higher year-on-year, but prices for Södra’s core products were considerably weaker than in 2019.

Pulp & Paper
Valmet will supply the world’s largest bleached chemi thermo mechanical pulp (BCTMP) line to Guangxi Sun Paper Co., Ltd’s new Beihai mill in China. The start-up is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2021. The order was included in Valmet's orders received of the second quarter 2020. The value of the order will not be disclosed.

Triumph Sheets sheet feeder in Cleveland, Tennessee, set a company lineal record for one shift, averaging 1074 ft per min (327m per min), running a total of 5.456 million sq ft (507,000 sqm) of board. During the eight-hour shift, the 132-inch/3.35m BHS Corrugated corrugator ran seven hours without stopping and consumed 296.5 tons. There were 104 order changes.

Valmet will supply the eighth tissue line delivery including an extensive automation package to Turkish tissue producer Hayat Kimya. The company has decided to invest in a third machine in Russia in order to meet the increasing demand for their high-quality tissue products. This is the first machine at their new mill outside Moscow. The new line will add 70,000 tons of tissue to company’s current production of facial, toilet and towel tissues.

Progroup said that it has entered the final phase of construction of its new paper mill in Sandersdorf-Brehna, Germany. The mill is home to PM3, a containerboard machine with the capacity to produce 750,000 metric tons per year from 100% recovered paper.

Reuters reports that Johnnie Walker scotch whisky will be available in plastic-free bottles from early 2021, Diageo Plc said on Monday, as the world’s biggest spirits maker ramps up efforts to tackle plastic waste.

The European Paper Recycling Council (EPRC) reported that the European paper recycling rate has increased from 71.7% in 2018 to 72% in 2019 due to a stable utilisation of Paper for Recycling (PfR) in the European paper industry.
