Pulp & Paper
A northern Wisconsin paper mill that shut down last year and struggled to find a buyer is back in operation and calling back workers.

Ox Industries announced that it has successfully restarted the White Pigeon Paper Mill in Michigan after it is was closed for almost three months. Ox acquired the mill from Graphic Packaging in June and has since converted the mill from clay coated recycled paperboard (CRB) to high strength uncoated recycled paperboard (URB).

Stora Enso will start codetermination negotiations with employees at its Hylte Mill in southwest Sweden regarding a plan to reorganize the mill, including permanent closure of paper machine PM3 and the deinking plant (DIP).

Georgia-Pacific announced today that it is now accepting mixed paper bales that contain single-use polyethylene (PE)-coated paper cups at its recycled paper mills in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Muskogee, Oklahoma. The development follows two years of partnership with the Foodservice Packaging Institute (FPI) and collaboration with the NextGen Consortium, a global initiative led by Closed Loop Partners with founding partners Starbucks and McDonald's, to help open opportunities for paper cup recycling.

Lessebo Paper has launched the environmental declaration of year 2020, based on 2019-year data, and reports a drastic decrease of CO2 emissions. The production of pulp and paper emits only 22kg per metric ton finished product from Lessebo Paper, resulting in placing the company as one of the lowest CO2 emitters in the entire paper industry.

Veritiv has announced that Salvatore "Sal" A. Abbate has been named the company's Chief Executive Officer, and current board member Stephen E. Macadam (Steve) has been named Chairman of the Board as Mary A. Laschinger, current Chairman and CEO, retires from the organization. Both appointments are effective September 30, 2020.
