There is no consolidation of capital associated with the name change.

Domtar announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to sell its Personal Care business to American Industrial Partners (AIP) for $920 million.

SCA announced that it will increase the price of White and Brown Kraftliner by EUR 50 per metric ton.

Sappi Europe announced a price increase for its Woodfree Coated and Woodfree Uncoated paper grades (sheets and reels) by 8-10% for all European markets.

Pulp & Paper
The PulPaper event will be rescheduled to the spring of 2022. The decision is due to the uncertainty caused by the pandemic situation and travel restrictions.

Alberni Valley News reports that when Paper Excellence Canada announced in mid-December it will invest $13 million in its Port Alberni mill to increase production of food grade paper, it was the company’s response to a pivot in restaurant trends.

University of Maine News reports that the University of Maine Forest Bioproducts Research Institute (FBRI) will upgrade its Technology Research Center (TRC) in Old Town and Process Development Center (PDC) in Jenness Hall to bolster ongoing efforts to create new bioproducts, increase production and find uses for woody biomass materials typically considered waste.

Mondi, a global leader in sustainable packaging and paper, received eight awards in three categories at this year's WorldStar Packaging awards. In this annual competition of the World Packaging Organisation, judges from 55 countries recognized achievements in packaging innovation and technologies worldwide, with a focus on sustainability, product protection and end-user convenience.

Corrugated board producer De Jong Packaging, from De Lier in The Netherlands, is expanding its location. In order to meet the growing demand for corrugated cardboard packaging, De Jong Packaging, together with real estate company WDP, is building a new multilayer distribution center with storage and production space.

Sappi Europe today announced plans to introduce new barrier coating technology for functional paper packaging at its specialty mill in Alfeld, Germany.

The biobased and sustainable plastics sector aims to create green products from biological based inputs, residue and wastes. This will play an important role in global efforts to achieve a green circular economy.

Rottneros’ Board has decided on investments to reduce emissions to water at Vallvik Mill. The investments amount to a total of SEK 33 million and are linked to the mill's updated environmental permit, which has now gained legal force, allowing an annual pulp production of 255,000 tons.

The European Investment Bank has signed a € 150 million loan agreement with Finnish renewable materials company Stora Enso. The financing will support the conversion of a former pulp and paper mill in the Finnish city of Oulu, from production of wood-free coated printing paper, into packaging board manufacturing mainly for the food and beverage sector, consistent with Stora Enso’s strategic shift towards packaging made of sustainable and renewable resources.

Fastmarkets RISI has announced that Tony Smurfit, CEO of Smurfit Kappa Group, has been named the Fastmarkets RISI 2021 European CEO of the Year. The award will be presented at the Virtual Fastmarkets RISI European Conference in March.
