Georgia-Pacific announced that it will expand its Dixie to Go/PerfecTouch® cup manufacturing capacity at the Lexington, Kentucky, Dixie facility. This will allow GP to scale its efforts and create a single, world-class manufacturing facility for cupmaking.

The volume of paper production and consumption in France will continue to decline in the first half of the current year, due to ongoing lockdowns in the country, caused by the pandemic and the decline of purchasing power of local customers, according to recent statements made by some leading local analysts in the field of pulp and paper business and some local media reports.

In close cooperation with its customer Jiangsu Bohui Paper Industry, international technology group ANDRITZ recently achieved a milestone in high-consistency (HC) refining by processing a peak capacity of 1,300 admt/d of local hardwood chips per day and achieving sustainable production of 1,150 admt/d at the mill in Dafeng, China.

Pulp & Paper
Europap Tezol Kağit will boost capacity with a Toscotec-supplied AHEAD 2.2S tissue machine at its integrated production base in Mersin, Turkey. This is a repeat order for Toscotec who already supplied a TT SYD steel Yankee dryer installed on their PM1 in 2012. The new line is scheduled for start-up in mid-2022.

The government of Uzbekistan, a former Soviet state in Central Asia, plans to create conditions for the establishment of large-scale productions of cotton pulp within the territory of the country in years to come, according to recent statements, made by an official spokesman of Uzbek government and some local media reports.

Mondi announced the start-up of a repurposed paper machine at its Steti mill in the Czech Republic. Through a EUR 67 million investment, the machine was converted from the production of containerboard into a fully dedicated speciality kraft paper machine designed to produce up to 130,000 metric tons of speciality kraft paper per year.

Valmet will supply a new OptiConcept M container board making line with extensive packages of automation and services to Shanying Paper, Guangdong at its Zhaoqing mill in China. The new board making line (PM 53) will produce test liner grades and continue the expanding of Shanying Paper’s business in Guangdong area.

The Bavarian Kelheim Fibres GmbH has become the first viscose fibre manufacturer worldwide to receive EMAS certification.

Mondi, a global leader in packaging and paper, has started up its new specialty kraft paper machine at its Štětí mill in the Czech Republic. The €67 million investment in the machine makes it Europe’s first dedicated paper machine for specialty kraft paper grades made out of fresh and recycled fiber for retail and online shopping bags.

Resolute Forest Products announced that Sylvain A. Girard will join the company and be appointed as senior vice president and chief financial officer as of March 2, 2021. His term will begin the day after Remi G. Lalonde, currently Resolute's senior vice president and chief financial officer, assumes the position of president and chief executive officer. Girard will report to Lalonde.

Domtar on Jan. 14 announced that Troy Wilson has been named Kingsport Mill manager, effective immediately. He succeeds Marty Barfield, who passed away on Dec. 31 after a long illness.
