Effective immediately the Werhahn Group, a German fully family-owned business Group, has acquired 100% ownership of Fiber-Lean Technologies. Formed five years ago as a joint venture and previously owned by Imerys SA and Omya International, FiberLean Technologies will now be a fully functional commercial business that will continue as a separate legal entity within the Werhahn Group.

Cartiera San Giorgio successfully started up its PM1 after the complete rebuilt of its dryer section by Toscotec. PM1 has a trim width of 2,500 mm, and produces wet creped tissue in the basis weight range from 30 to 50 gsm, using virgin cellulose and recycled paper.

ITW Foils and ITW Thermal Films have united under one brand name, ITW ShineMark. Previously entwined with other ITW businesses in the Specialty Films Division, these two complementary global businesses were partitioned into their own division in 2020.

The Times News reports that Domtar’s Kingsport mill has been downtown since 1916, and its conversion from fine paper to container board production will keep it here for another 100 years.

Papeteries du Léman (PDL) announced that it will increase prices for all Primabake range and Specialty paper grades by 5 - 8%, effective with deliveries from May 1, 2021.

Sonoco announced that it is implementing a $50 per ton price increase for all grades of uncoated recycled paperboard (URB) in the United States and Canada, effective with shipments beginning April 26, 2021.

Pulp & Paper
Valmet will supply the third tissue production line including stock preparation, automation system and a Focus rewinder to Aktül Kagit Üretim Pazarlama A.S., Turkey. The new Advantage DCT 200 tissue line will be installed at the company's mill in Pamukova, Sakarya Province in Turkey. The start-up is planned for the second quarter 2022.

Andritz has received an order from UPM to provide industrial maintenance services for its new mill in the city of Paso de los Toros, Uruguay. The mill will have an annual production capacity of 2.1 million tons of bleached eucalyptus kraft pulp when it starts up in the second half of 2022.

International Paper announced that it has purchased two state-of-the-art corrugated box plants in Spain, further growing its capabilities in Madrid and Catalonia, the largest industrial regions in the country.

New Products
To better match industry needs, Runtech Systems extends its well-proven turbo blower product portfolio with new models. These new models, RunEco EP400 and EP500 Turbo Blowers feature an ABB motor and are best suited for small and medium-sized paper machines.

With a new robotic solution, the automation specialists at cts GmbH are optimizing pulp bale handling in the pulp and paper industry. Up to 90 pulp bales per hour can be automatically de-wired via a 6-axis robot on one or two independent lines.

Ahlstrom-Munksjö announced that its Servera® papers offer the highest kit level for a paper free of fluorochemicals, while being cost-effective. These eco-friendly papers are available in bleached and natural options.

Modellfabrik Papier, founded in Düren, Germany, will bring together players from across the paper industry including ABB, paper producers Essity and Schoellershammer, supplier Voith, and research institute Darmstadt Technical University, with the opportunity for others to participate. Together

The Port Tampa Bay Board of Commissioners have approved an agreement with Celadon Development Corporation to lease 37 acres for the construction and operation of a paper fiber manufacturing plant. The plant will have significant economic and sustainability benefits generating up to 20,000 export containers per year (40,000 TEUs), creating approximately 100 jobs and involving a capital investment of $160 million during Phase One of the project.

The Board of Clyde Industries announces the appointment of Brent Beachy as the Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Brent is a strong senior industrial business leader, with a core background in sales and marketing, operations, and finance.

After starting Two Sides North America nearly a decade ago and building it into the highly successful organization it is today, Phil Riebel will retire as president of the organization effective April 1. Kathi Rowzie, who has been running the day-to-day operations of Two Sides since last March, will become president.
