C.A.S. Paper Mill started up an AHEAD 1.5S tissue machine supplied by Toscotec at its Sing Buri mill in Thailand.

Nordic Paper on April 28 announced its decision to initiate consultations with trade unions regarding a restructuring of production at its pulp and paper mill in Säffle, Sweden.

Kronospan is preparing for the launch of production of paper from finished cellulose in the Kaluga Region, that will be carried out within the territory of the Kaluga special economic zone in Russia.

Containerboard/Packaging
Norske Skog announced a final investment decision to convert one machine at its Bruck mill in Austria from newsprint to recycled containerboard production. The conversion at Bruck will introduce 210,000 metric tons of containerboard capacity to meet the growing demand for renewable packaging.

Graphic Packaging Holding Company [on April 27] reported Net Income for first quarter 2021 of $54 million, or $0.19 per share, based upon 277.2 million weighted average diluted shares. This compares to first quarter 2020 Net Loss of $13 million, or $0.04 per share, based upon 288.9 million weighted average diluted shares.

The International Council of Forest and Paper Associations (ICFPA) has released its biennial Sustainability Progress Report which demonstrates progress in seven key areas of sustainability: sustainable forest management, renewable energy, greenhouse gas and suplhur dioxide emissions, water use, health and safety, and recycling. The 2021 report also highlights the forest products sector's global response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
